Recording Materials Used on Handyman Jobs

Every Job Uses Something

Anchors, caulk, wire nuts, a wax ring, a box of deck screws. Small items add up to real money over a month.

What to Write

In materials used, a short description: "2 tubes silicone caulk, 1 towel bar". In materials cost, the dollar amount spent for this job.

Billing Materials

If you bill materials separately, the office has the list and cost on the job when building the invoice. If you include materials in flat prices, the cost tells you whether the price still works.

Receipts

Keep a habit for receipts, such as a photo on the job or one envelope per week. The number on the job and the receipt should match.

Truck Stock

Common items from truck stock still count. Even a rough cost helps keep prices honest.
