Estimating Drywall Repair: Patches, Texture and Paint
Size and Count
A doorknob hole, a water-damaged section and a dozen nail pops are very different jobs. Ask for photos with something for scale.
Texture Is the Hidden Work
Smooth walls are easy. Orange peel and knockdown textures take skill to match. Price matching texture separately or into a higher tier.
Drying Time Means Return Trips
Larger patches need more than one coat and drying time. That can mean a second visit. Build it into the price or schedule the second visit near other work.
Paint
Will you prime and paint? Does the customer have the paint? Touch-up paint rarely matches perfectly on an old wall; say so up front.
A Simple Tier
Many handymen use tiers: small patch, medium patch, large section, with texture and paint as add-ons. Put each tier in your service list.
Check Your Numbers
Logged hours across drywall jobs will tell you whether your tiers are right.
